Psalm 130
By A Song of Ascents
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD!
 O Lord, hear my voice!
     Let your ears be attentive
to the voice of my pleas for mercy!

If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities,
   O Lord, who could stand?
But with you there is forgiveness,
    that you may be feared.

I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
   and in his word I hope;
my soul waits for the Lord

more than watchmen for the morning,
more than watchmen for the morning.

O Israel, hope in the LORD!
For with the LORD there is steadfast love,
and with him is plentiful redemption.

And he will redeem Israel
   from all his iniquities.

Editor's comment: Some of my favorite poetry is from the Psalms. Once, for a period of about 4-5 months I read almost solely Psalms in my daily reading. While that didn't give a very well-rounded view of Scripture, it helped me to appreciate the Psalms more. In this one particularly, I like the lines that say, "more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning." In my mind, these imply resignation, or weariness, but it is a steadfast weariness. Or in other words, "I am waiting for God, and I am tired, but I will hold on." Remember, the writer is writing "out of the depths." They remind me of Robert Frost's, "miles to go before I sleep, miles to go before I sleep."
